Why I Painted This

Sometimes, one bloom is enough.

Open Heart is a quiet but confident piece—part of my Looking Up Series, which explores the strength, grace, and quiet power of magnolias in full bloom. This single flower stretches wide, open to the light, unapologetically radiant. It’s not flashy. It’s full.

This painting is about what it means to live with your heart uncovered. To bloom even when the weather is uncertain. To be fully present, fully open, fully alive.

It’s small in scale, but layered with intention.

Materials & Presentation

Painted in vibrant acrylics on a 12" x 12" x 0.75" gallery-wrapped canvas, this piece features expressive brushwork and a richly textured surface. The magnolia bloom is bold yet tender, surrounded by soft, luminous colors that evoke early spring light.

Finished with a high gloss varnish to enhance depth and detail, and the sides are fully painted—so no framing is necessary. However, it would also look stunning in a simple float frame if you’d like to dress it up.
