About Heather
I’m Heather Duncan, an artist and teacher living in Washington, DC, with my husband, our three kids, and our dog, Henry—who, let’s be honest, thinks he runs the place. I’m originally from Oklahoma, and moved to Captiol Hill in 2016. My first love has always been flowers. I moved from a large ranch home with a large garden in Oklahoma to a small row house in DC. I gave up my bed of wild flowers for a pallet of painted ones.
Color is my superpower. I’m all about taking bold hues and pairing them with simple scenes or iconic images to give the everyday a little extra pizzazz. My medium of choice is acrylagouache. I love paint that’s both vibrant and versatile. It lets me bring my imagination to life, one bold brushstroke at a time.
When I’m not chasing down a rogue crayon or trying to keep Henry from chewing on my paintbrushes, I’m teaching art. I’ve taught everyone from tiny tots to grown-ups, and I have a soft spot for process art. There’s nothing quite like watching kids and individuals who’ve experienced trauma find the peace through creativity. I’m on a mission to make art as accessible as possible because everyone deserves a chance to make something beautiful, no matter their income or ability level. I truly believe we were each made to be creative by the Creator himself.
