About Heather

I’m Heather Duncan, an artist and teacher living in Washington, DC, with my husband, our three kids, and our dog, Henry—who, let’s be honest, thinks he runs the place. I’m originally from Oklahoma, and moved to Captiol Hill in 2016. My first love has always been flowers. I moved from a large ranch home with a large garden in Oklahoma to a small row house in DC. I gave up my bed of wild flowers for a pallet of painted ones.

Color is my superpower. I’m all about taking bold hues and pairing them with simple scenes or iconic images to give the everyday a little extra pizzazz. My medium of choice is acrylagouache. I love paint that’s both vibrant and versatile. It lets me bring my imagination to life, one bold brushstroke at a time.

When I’m not chasing down a rogue crayon or trying to keep Henry from chewing on my paintbrushes, I’m teaching art. I’ve taught everyone from tiny tots to grown-ups, and I have a love for process art. There’s nothing quite like watching kids and individuals who’ve experienced trauma find the peace through creativity. I’m on a mission to make art as accessible as possible because everyone deserves a chance to make something beautiful, no matter their income or ability level. I truly believe we were each made to be creative.

House Portraits

A hand-drawn keepsake of the place that holds your story.

Your home has watched every ordinary Tuesday and every big moment happen inside it. This is a way to hold onto that — a one-of-a-kind portrait, drawn and painted by hand, of the house, cottage, brownstone, or lake place that's yours.

What It Is

Each portrait starts with your photos and becomes an original piece of art — inked by hand, then layered in color with the same bold, saturated palette you'll find throughout my work. Brick reds, garden greens, that one door color you painted on purpose — it's all there, rendered with real texture and life, not a flattened digital print.

No two look alike, because no two homes do.

Perfect For

  • A moving-away gift for the house someone's leaving behind
  • A housewarming present for someone just moving in
  • A anniversary or milestone gift marking years in one place
  • A keepsake of a childhood home, a family lake house, or a place that's since been sold
  • Simply because you love where you live

How it works

The Process

1. Send Your Photos
A few clear photos of your home's front exterior — daytime, good light, straight-on if possible. I'll let you know if I need anything else.

2. I Get to Drawing
Each portrait is inked and painted by hand — no shortcuts, no filters. You'll see the same linework and layered color you see in the samples above.

3. Review & Revise
I'll send a photo of the finished piece before it ships, so you can make sure every detail — down to the shutters — feels right.

4. It Arrives Ready to Frame
Shipped flat and protected, sized to fit standard frames so you can get it on the wall without a trip to a custom framer.

Ready to Get Started?

Portraits are made in the order inquiries come in, and each one gets real time and attention — so spots are limited.

Tell me a bit about your home and I'll follow up with pricing, timeline, and next steps.
